Storm Causes Thousands of Flight Cancelations

CHICAGO (AP) — A slow-moving winter storm has blanketed a large swath of the Plains and Midwest with snow.

Blizzard conditions developed in Chicago, where 10 to 14 inches of snow could fall by this evening. More than 1,000 flights have been canceled at O'Hair and Midway airports. And several of the Chicago's areas top tourist attractions closed early today because of the weather, including the Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium and Brookfield Zoo.

Officials are warning that blowing, drifting snow could make roads treacherous.

In eastern Nebraska, several sections of Interstate 80 were closed today due to traffic accidents in icy conditions.

The storm is expected to continue moving east, adding fresh snow to parts of New England still digging out from a winter walloping at the start of last week.

The National Weather Service says parts of New England could get between 8 and 14 inches of snow, with up to 16 inches falling in western Massachusetts and Connecticut.
