Storm Spawned up to Six Tornadoes Near Mankato
Mankato, MN (KROC-AM News) - Severe thunderstorms produced tornadoes and torrential rains in sections of south-central and western Minnesota yesterday evening and last night.
The National Weather Service is looking into reports of between three and six tornadoes in Blue Earth, Nicollet and Sibley counties. There have been reports of damage to some farm buildings and crops, along with downed trees and power lines along the path of the reported tornadoes. So far, no injuries have been reported.
The same storm system produced some amazing rainfall totals in western areas of the state. The highest were from the Redwood Falls area at nearly 9.5 inches. The National Weather Service also received reports of between 5 inches and 7 inches of rain in the Renville area and there was a report of over 5-½ inches just west of Mankato.
The Rochester area was spared from any severe weather, but the storm system produced heavy rain showers. The rainfall total measured of the Rochester Airport yesterday was just over 1 inch.
