La Crosse, WI (KROC AM News) - Parts of SW Wisconsin are dealing with flooding and other problems as a result of heavy rain that fell Monday and early Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service office in La Crosse, several inches of rain fell overnight in parts of SE Minnesota and SW Wisconsin.

Here is the message the office issued early Tuesday:

“Life-threatening flash flooding is occurring in parts of La Crosse, Monroe, and Vernon counties in western Wisconsin. Evacuations are occurring in these counties. Anywhere from 5 to 12 inches of rain has fallen overnight. This is a particularly dangerous situation for those along Coon Creek. Record flooding may also occur along the Kickapoo River near Ontario.”

Reports indicate the Coulee Region in SW Wisconsin will likely be affected by flooding through the day. There have been numerous reports of mudslides, road closures, high-water rescues and evacuations. The Coon Valley area that is 20 miles southeast of La Crosse is also affected.

The highest rainfall totals reported in SE Minnesota were in Fillmore and Houston counties where 4 - 7 inches fell. The official total at the Rochester airport was just shy of nine-tenths of an inch.

A storm cell that moved through the Rochester area around 5:30 PM Monday produced heavy rain and strong winds.

Some other areas in southern Minnesota are reporting damage from severe thunderstorms packing strong winds and hail late Monday afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service says a hangar collapsed at the Red Wing Regional Airport and there were downed trees and roof damage in the area.

Even the Minnesota State Fair was affected by severe weather Monday night as rides and entertainment stages were evacuated.
