The proposal is on the city council’s Wednesday agenda.

It reads: “Council to initiate a policy to restrict the purchase and use of styrofoam food containers by the city of Rochester and its vendors. This action aligns with the city’s sustainability goals outlined earlier this year.”

The council could vote on the proposal in November and if approved, it could take effect Jan. 1st.
