Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A St. Paul man charged with murder for a fatal drug overdose in Rochester is expected to be formally arraigned today in Olmsted County Court.
56-year-old Jimmie Lee Campbell was transferred to the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center from the Ramsey County Jail over the weekend. He was jailed in St. Paul when the Olmsted County Attorney's office issued an arrest warrant just over 2 weeks ago charging him with 3rd-degree murder.
According to the criminal complaint, Campbell is accused of selling counterfeit oxycodone pills containing heroin and fentanyl to a man who died from toxic levels of the drugs at his aunt's home in Rochester in late April. The name of the victim has not been released.
When he was arrested in St. Paul in late July, court records allege he was caught in possession of 29 individually packaged bindles of suspected heroin and cocaine along with 10 suspected counterfeit oxycodone pills that matched some partial pills that were found in the wallet of the Rochester overdose victim. The complaint says Campbell admitted meeting with the victim the day before his death but denies selling him drugs.
