Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A man currently being held in the Ramsey County jail has been charged with third-degree murder in Olmsted County.

A criminal complaint was filed Friday against 56-year-old Jimmy Lee Campbell that alleges he sold drugs to a man who died from a drug overdose in Rochester earlier this year. The victim, who is not identified in the court documents, was found dead at his aunt's residence on the morning of April 29. An autopsy determined his death was the result of a toxic overdose of heroin and fentanyl. Investigators found partial pills, suspected to be counterfeit oxycodone, inside his wallet.

The investigation into his death found that he had traveled to his father's home in Hastings before he was picked up by his girlfriend and was driven to St. Paul where it is alleged he purchased the counterfeit oxycodone pills containing fentanyl from Campbell during a transaction that took place in the parking lot of a tobacco shop/convenience store in St. Paul.

Street Drug Overdose Warning from Rochester Minnesota Police

The criminal complaint says surveillance camera video recordings show the victim and his girlfriend arriving in her vehicle just before a vehicle driven by Campbell pulls into the parking lot. The man who died from the overdose can then be seen entering Campbell's vehicle and allegedly exchanging items before the victim returned to his girlfriend's SUV after spending fewer than 15 seconds in the other vehicle.

The charging document says Campbell was located in St. Paul last Wednesday and the Rochester police investigator in the case indicated he was found to be in possession of 29 individually packaged bindles of suspected heroin and cocaine, along with 10 suspected pills of counterfeit oxycodone that matched the partial pills found in the victim's wallet.

The criminal complaint states that Campbell acknowledged he was the person seen in the surveillance video with the victim at the tobacco store parking lot the day before the man's death, but he denies selling drugs at any time.
