Lakeville, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Dakota County Sheriff's Office is reporting a 36-year-old man was killed in an exchange of gunfire with law officers this morning in Lakeville.

A news release says Dakota County Sheriff's Deputies and Lakeville Police Officers were attempting to serve an emergency order for protection that required a man to vacate a residence located a few blocks northwest of Lakeville South High School around 11:40 a.m. The statement says within seconds of the officers entering the home, the man opened fire on them. The law officers returned fire and fatally wounded the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene. None of the officers involved were harmed.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is now leading the investigation. The name of the man who was killed and the names of the officers involved have not been released.

There are reports of a fatal officer-involved shooting in Lakeville.

The Dakota County Sheriff's Office says its deputies were involved in the incident, which was reported about 11:40 AM within the city limits of the far southern Twin Cities suburb. Officials are reporting the suspect was shot and none of the deputies involved were harmed.

The Star-Tribune is reporting the person shot by the deputies has died. The newspaper also says the shooting occurred while deputies were serving a warrant at a residence several blocks northeast of Lakeville South High School.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is leading the investigation.
