There were at least two hunting-related deaths in Minnesota during the opening weekend  of the state’s firearms season.

One of the victims was a man who was shot while hunting in northwestern Minnesota Saturday afternoon.   Authorities say 50-year-old Paul Scholl of Laporte was shot while hunting near Mahnomen.

The other death was reported in the northeastern part of the state in Carlton County. Authorities say 69 year old Robert Peterson of Nowthen was in a deer stand yesterday when he accidentally shot himself in the chest.

His son told authorities he dropped off his father at his stand and when he came back to get him a few hours later, he was dead.
