Austin, MN (KROC-AM News) - Austin Police are reporting the arrests of two suspects for Friday night's deadly drive-by shooting.
23-year-old Manamany Abella was taken into custody last night, but Austin police are still looking for the white 2015 Dodge Durango that was used in the shooting. The vehicle's license plate reads JAG300.
Abella has been booked into the Mower County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder, drive-by shooting, and illegal possession of a firearm charges. His criminal history includes multiple convictions for felony drug offenses and being a convicted felon in possession of firearms and/or ammunition.
Austin police previously indicated they were looking for two men in connection with the shooting. An earlier statement indicated another Austin man, 28-year-old Chan Oman, was suspected of driving the SUV when the shooting occurred. Oman was also arrested yesterday and is being held in the Mower County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder and multiple counts of drive-by shooting.
Austin police indicated that investigators believed Abella was a passenger in the Durango when an occupant of the vehicle opened fire on a car along a residential street in Austin around 10:40 PM on Friday. The driver of the car was fatally wounded and at least two of the four passengers were wounded.
A news release stated the car kept rolling for about two blocks before crashing into a home in the 700 block of 4th Street North in Austin. The driver was found deceased behind the steering wheel and two of the passengers had fled the scene before police arrived. The two other passengers, a male and a female, were initially transported by ambulance to the Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital in Mankato and were later transferred to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, where they were last reported in serious but stable condition.
The names of the man who was killed in the shooting and the two wounded individuals have not been released.
