A police spokesperson said the driver, described as a 29-year-old St. Charles man, was making a left turn from eastbound 2nd St. Southwest to 11th Ave. Southwest when he struck a 41-year-old Rochester woman in the crosswalk around 7:30 a.m. The woman suffered a leg and possible head injury, although she was reportedly conscious and talking with first responders and witnesses.
Police say the driver and witnesses immediately rendered aid to the woman. The driver told officers that he was behind a vehicle that had just made a left turn onto 11th Ave. Southwest and that he did not see the woman until he hit her with the front end of his Subaru Crosstrek.
The pedestrian was examined at St. Mary’s Hospital. She told police she was westbound while crossing 11th Ave. Southwest during the collision. Police say the driver could be cited for failure to yield pending the results of the ongoing investigation.
