The state is so large that the amount of snow in the south is much less than what the northern parts get. For instance, Rochester usually sees about 53 inches of snow in a typical winter, while Duluth gets around 90 inches, according to currentresults.com.

It's very cold throughout most of Minnesota right now, but there isn't much snow on the ground in much of the state.

Back in October, NOAA predicted that we'd have colder-than-usual temperatures and more snow than normal this winter, so January and February could be pretty snowy. If we end up with a lot of snow, you'll want to follow Minnesota's snow law to avoid fines.

In Minnesota, it's illegal to shovel or plow snow onto roads and streets, even though some people do it to clear off their sidewalks or driveways. Putting snow in the road can create hazards for drivers, like drifting or blocking visibility.

If you get caught doing this, it’s considered a misdemeanor and could result in a fine of up to $1,000.
