NEW BRIGHTON, Minn. (AP) — An 11-year-old girl has died after she was pulled from a creek in New Brighton.

New Brighton police say the girl and two friends jumped off a pedestrian bridge and into the rushing creek in Long Lake Park on Thursday afternoon. The girl's friends made it out of the water, but the girl went under the surface.

Police say the girl had been underwater for about 20 minutes before she was rescued. She was unresponsive and was taken to Unity Hospital in Fridley. The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports (http://bit.ly/1NfGuXr ) she was later moved to Children's Hospital, where she died.

The girl's name was not released.
