Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) – Record rain hit the Rochester area overnight and there may be more on the way.

The city was hit by periods of rain beginning early Friday and the 6:00 AM total at the Rochester airport was around 5 inches. That's the most ever for any day in June. It’s also the city's 6th wettest day on record. The National Weather Service says another half inch could fall into Friday afternoon.

The rain led to flooding problems around the city.

Southbound Highway 63 was closed in the south part of the city between the Highway 52 interchange and County Rd 16 near the airport. Several vehicles became stranded in flooding between 40th and 48th streets. There were also reports of flooding on 48th St just west of Highway 63. And flooding problems were reported along parts of 57th St NW.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for parts of Dodge and Olmsted counties. Rainfall totals in Dodge, Fillmore, and Olmsted counties are in the 4 - 7 inch range. Widespread flooding problems were being reported across SE Minnesota Friday morning.

The overnight storms also led to power outages in Rochester. RPU crews were busy for several hours restoring service. Hundreds of customers were affected at the peak of the outages.
