2 Women Killed in UTV-Pickup Collision on Rural Minnesota Highway
Foley, MN (KROC-AM News) - Authorities in central Minnesota are reporting the deaths of two people in a fiery traffic crash involving an all-terrain vehicle.
The Benton County Sheriff's Office says the victims were two women who were in a UTV that collided with a pickup truck on a rural highway northeast of Foley. The deadly crash was reported on Saturday around 2:20 PM.
A news release says the first emergency responders to arrive at the scene found the pickup and the UTV in the ditch and the UTV was engulfed in flames. Witnesses to the collision had already pulled the women out of the SUV, but they were pronounced dead at the scene.
Benton County officials indicated their names are not being released until a medical examiner has reached a positive ID for both women.
The driver of the pick was identified as 57-year-old Todd Henke of Foley. The Sheriff's Office says he was treated for minor injuries that he suffered while attempting to help the occupants of the UTV.
According to the news release, witnesses told investigators that the pickup and the UTV were traveling in opposite directions at highway speeds and the UTV was seen driving in the middle of the roadway before the deadly collision. Officials say the incident remains under investigation.
The report also noted that the deputies at the scene did not detect any signs of impairment from the driver of the pickup
