Congrats to the Byron and Lourdes high school basketball teams and their fans for a very successful fundraiser that concluded at Friday night's game!

I received this note last week:

My name is Sam Pearson and I am the student council advisor at Lourdes High School. This Friday, February 7th will be the final event to support “Rivals for a Cause.” At the home boys’ varsity basketball game against Byron, fans can donate to Habitat for Humanity on behalf of the school they are supporting. This is a joint effort between both schools to use our competitive rivalry to promote positive change. Also, there will be a half-court shooting competition during halftime to continue to raise money. The schools' fans that make the most halftime shots will win an additional $100 for their school. The winning school will be announced at the end of the game and awarded the traveling “Beagle Trophy” (a combination of a bear and an eagle - our school mascots). All money raised will go to the Rochester Area Habitat for Humanity. A member of Habitat for Humanity will be on hand to accept this donation. Previously, at the home boys’ basketball game in Byron over $1,000 was raised. Currently, both schools have donations totals within a few dollars of each other.
Laura K Smith, communications & marketing specialist for Rochester Catholic Schools passed on this update Saturday:

$2,600 was raised through the combined efforts of both Byron and Lourdes High School. The 2014 "Rivals for a Cause" was won by Lourdes High School. They will receive the traveling "Beagle Trophy" (the beagle is a combination of both schools' mascots - a bear and an eagle).
