The National Weather Service says 2013 will be remembered for its extreme wet and dry periods in Rochester. Spring brought days of rain, finishing as the wettest spring on record for Rochester. Almost 58 inches of snow fell from February through May – most snow all-time for this time period. Nearly a third of it fell during the record-setting snowstorm that hit in early May. Precipitation became a distant memory as the calendar moved into mid-summer and early fall. The July-September period was the 3rd driest for this time period. So, despite 2013 finishing as the third wettest year on record,

the number doesn't tell the whole story. Nearly 31 inches of precipitation fell between January 1st and the end of June, making it the wettest start to any year for Rochester. But from July 1st through December 31st, only 11 inches fell.
