We’ll know later this week if Albert Lea Salvation Army Captain Jim Brickson

has set a world record. The 50 year old began ringing his bell at the Northbridge Mall in Albert Lea at 11 a.m. today and if all goes as planned, he will continue his Red Kettle shift until 7 p.m. Friday - 80 straight hours. That would be a new world record. Brickson is one of seven Salvation Army bellringers around the country that will try to break the record this week. His goal is to raise between $300 and $400 per hour during the marathon shift. Brickson will be permitted 5 minute breaks once per hour and he can accumulate time, which would allow him to get something to eat and drink and grab a quick power nap. He also has headphones that will muffle the sound of the bell.
