A Second Straight Day of Record Warmth in the Rochester Area

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Residents and people visiting southern Minnesota enjoyed a second straight day of record warmth and forecasters say continued record warmth is possible on Wednesday and Thursday.

The unofficial high temperature this afternoon at the Rochester Airport was 50-degrees and was reached at 2 PM. That was 7-degrees warmer than the previous record high that was set in 1987 and was more than double the normal high temperature for this time of year, which is 24-degrees.

The temperature peaked at 52-degrees near downtown Rochester at the St. Marys Hospital helipad, also around 2 PM.

The warmest areas in the region were along the Mississippi River, where Winona and Kellogg reported high temperatures of 55-degrees. The high-temperature readings at Austin and Owatonna were 54-degrees, while most other communities in the region saw highs in the upper 40s and low 50s.

The National Weather Service also reported a record high temperature for Rochester yesterday when the mercury peaked at 51-degrees, erasing the previous record set in 1988.
