Two people suffered what the court document described as serious injuries. As part of the investigation, Rochester police obtained a search warrant for data on Sufi’s phone.

The search led to the discovery of an exchange of Snapchat messages between Sufi and Abukar, during which Abukar asked Sufi to give him back his gun.

Investigators then found multiple videos of Abukar with the firearm after obtaining a warrant for his Snapchat account.

Court records indicate Abukar has a prior felony assault conviction, which prevents him from legally possessing a firearm. He is also awaiting sentencing for a second-degree assault conviction.

Still Wanted for Carjacking and Walmart Shooting

Abukar has been wanted since mid-April when he was identified as the gunman during a shooting at the north Walmart store on the night of March 23, according to the warrant complaint in that case.

No one was injured in the shooting.
