Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Almost 500 new cases of COVID-19 were reported today in Olmsted County, which is more than double the previous record for a single day that was reported on Saturday.

The 497 new infections identified in Olmsted County were among the over 7500 new confirmed and probable COVID cases reported across the entire state today by the Minnesota Department of Health. The statewide total was down from the record high of over 8700 reported on Saturday, but it was still among the highest daily totals reported since the start of the pandemic.

The state health department reported a new record for COVID-19 testing on Saturday. The overall total was over 60,000, which results in a daily testing positivity rate of about 12-percent.

There were an additional 31 coronavirus deaths reported today statewide, raising the overall death toll in Minnesota since the beginning of the pandemic to over 2900. The deaths listed today involved state residents ranging in age from their early 50s to over 100-years-old.
