Pats flog Dolphins

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — The New England Patriots remain one of the NFL's five unbeaten teams this season, and the first two reach seven wins.

Tom Brady threw for 356 yards and four touchdowns as the Pats ripped Miami 36-7. Julian Edelman grabbed two of the scoring passes to help New England reach the 30-point mark for the sixth consecutive game.

Rob Gronkowski had 113 yards receiving and a touchdown, and Dion Lewis had 93 yards receiving and one score.

Stephen Gostkowski has set a team record by hitting 26 consecutive field-goal attempts, nailing kicks of 52 and 36 yards.

The 3-4 Dolphins suffered their first loss in three games under interim coach Dan Campbell, and they finished the game without Cameron Wake. The four-time Pro Bowl defensive end was carted off the field with an Achilles tendon injury.

NFL-COWBOYS-RANDLE

Randle taking leave

IRVING, Texas (AP) — Dallas Cowboys running back Joseph Randle is taking time away from the team to deal with an unspecified personal issue while already ruled out of Sunday's game against Seattle with a back injury. Coach Jason Garrett declined to discuss the specifics of Randle's absence. Randle is under investigation by the NFL for a possible violation of its personal conduct policy following a domestic dispute in which he was not charged.

Watt should be ready

HOUSTON (AP) — Texans coach Bill O'Brien says defensive end J.J. Watt is expected to play against Tennessee on Sunday after missing a practice this week with a minor back injury. Also along Houston's defensive line, Jadeveon Clowney returned to practice from an illness Wednesday. He is also expected to play in Sunday's game.

Manziel still being investigated

BEREA, Ohio (AP) — An NFL spokesman says Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel's recent domestic incident remains under review. Manziel was interviewed at the team's complex Wednesday night by investigators looking into whether he violated the league's personal conduct policy during an Oct. 12 argument with his girlfriend.

Manziel was joined at the meeting by a representative of the players' union.

League spokesman Brian McCarthy says "no decision has been made" on Manziel, who was not arrested after being questioned by police in Avon, Ohio. Although he was not charged, Manziel can be fined or suspended by the league.

NFL-RAIDERS-OAKLAND

Davis says he's committed to staying in Oakland

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Raiders owner Mark Davis made a surprise appearance at an NFL-sponsored town hall meeting Thursday night and said he is still committed to keeping his team in Oakland.

Davis received a standing ovation when he was introduced to the crowd during a three-hour event designed to give fans a chance to voice their opinions about the team's possible move to Los Angeles. The owner initially said he wouldn't take questions, but grabbed the microphone early to address questions about his desire to keep the team in Oakland.

Also in attendance were Mayor Libby Schaaf and Eric Grubman, the NFL's point man on Los Angeles.

MLB-MANAGERS

Reports: Marlins and Padres have new skippers lined up

UNDATED (AP) — The Miami Marlins have landed a new manager, and they are in the market for a GM.

A person familiar with the situation says Don Mattingly has been hired as the Marlins' skipper, less than a week after he parted with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The announcement might not come until after the World Series.

Mattingly interviewed Monday with the Marlins. He went 446-363 in five years with the Dodgers and won the NL West the past three seasons. But the Dodgers have not reached the World Series since winning the title in 1988.

Meanwhile, the Marlins have confirmed that Dan Jennings had been fired, ending a 13-year association with the team that included an awkward move in May from general manager to manager. Team officials said after the season that Jennings would resume his old job as GM, but he didn't return to the office and hadn't been involved in offseason decisions.

— Two people with knowledge of the situation say the San Diego Padres have hired Arizona Diamondbacks third base coach Andy Green as their new manager. Green takes over a team that underachieved despite general manager A.J. Preller's offseason roster makeover. The Padres finished 74-88 and fourth in the NL West, 18 games behind the division champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

— Toronto Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos has stepped down after six seasons at the post, rejecting an offer to stay on in a diminished role under new president Mark Shapiro. His departure comes the same day Sporting News announced Anthopoulos was chosen executive of the year after guiding the Blue Jays to the AL East title and their first playoff berth in 22 years. The Jays were able to catch the Yankees in the standings once Anthopoulos acquired David Price and Troy Tulowitzki for several prospects at the trade deadline.

— The Colorado Rockies have declined a $9 million mutual option on Justin Morneau and bought out the first baseman for $750,000. Morneau played just 49 games this season and was out of the lineup for nearly four months with concussion symptoms. He hit .310 with three homers and 15 RBIs, one year after batting a league-high .319.

— Tigers pitcher Daniel Norris says he's undergone successful surgery on the cancerous growth on his thyroid. The lefty announced on Twitter and Instagram today that he is "Cancer Free," one week after he revealed he was having the malignant growth removed. Norris went 3-2 with a 3.75 ERA this year in 13 starts for Toronto and Detroit.

— Pitching coach Mike Maddux and the AL West champion Texas Rangers are parting ways after seven seasons. The Rangers initially said after the ALDS that Maddux was among six assistant coaches invited back next season.

WORLD SERIES

Series shifts to New York

UNDATED (AP) — The World Series continues on Friday in New York, two days after the Royals took a two-games-to-none lead over the New York Mets.

The Game 3 starting pitchers will be Yordano Ventura for the Royals against Noah Syndergaard.

During a workout at Citi Field, Mets manager Terry Collins and Game 3 starter Syndergaard both wore caps with "NYPD" on them to honor slain New York Police Department Officer Randolph Holder.

Holder was killed Oct. 20 while responding to a report of shots fired and a bicycle stolen at gunpoint in Manhattan's East Harlem neighborhood. His funeral was Wednesday.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL-SCHEDULE

Tar Heels top Panthers

UNDATED (AP) — Fifth-ranked TCU had no trouble picking up its 16th consecutive victory and improving to 8-0 on the season.

Trevone Boykin threw for 388 yards and three touchdowns as the Horned Frogs crushed West Virginia 40-10. Boykin also ran for 84 yards, including a hurdling two-yard score that helped TCU remain unbeaten heading into the first CFP rankings of the season.

Josh Doctson had 11 catches for 183 yards and two touchdowns for the Horned Frogs.

Also in top-25 action:

— Marquise Williams threw two long touchdown passes and North Carolina improved to 4-0 in the ACC by defeating 23rd-ranked Pittsburgh 26-19. Williams was 14 for 23 for 270 yards and ran for another 52. The Tar Heels have won seven straight since a sloppy opening loss to South Carolina and at 7-1 are off to their best start since 1997 under Mack Brown.

Grizzlies knock off Pacers

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Memphis Grizzlies were able to bounce back from Wednesday's 30-point home loss to Cleveland by winning their first road game of the season.

Marc Gasol scored 20 points and Mike Conley added 13 points and 10 assists as the Grizzlies topped Indiana 112-103. Memphis had seven players score in double figures and closed the game on an 18-7 run.

George Hill had 20 points for the Pacers, who led by nine late in the third quarter before falling to 0-2 for the first time in six years.

Also in the NBA:

— Blake Griffin dropped in 26 points on 11 of 17 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds in 26 minutes as the Clippers ripped Dallas 104-88 to improve to 2-0. DeAndre Jordan finished with 15 rebounds and Jamal Crawford came off the bench to score 15 points. Dirk Nowitzki had 16 points and seven rebounds for the Mavericks, who shot just 36 percent.

— Jeff Teague scored 23 points and had eight assists as Atlanta beat New York 112-101, leaving both teams 1-1. Al Horford delivered 21 points and nine rebounds, while Paul Millsap had 11 points and a game-high 11 boards for the Hawks. Carmelo Anthony had a game-high 25 points for the Knicks but shot 10-for-27, including an 0-for-7 mark from 3-point range.

Rivers fined

UNDATED (AP) — Clippers guard Austin Rivers has been fined $25,000 by the NBA for throwing a seat cushion into the stands.

Rivers threw the cushion in the fourth quarter of the Clippers' 111-104 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday.

Indiana Pacers forward Paul George was fined $10,000 by the league for publicly criticizing the officials after Wednesday night's season-opening loss at Toronto. The two-time All-Star told reporters that Indiana was frustrated by "a lot of bad calls."

Oilers stun Habs

UNDATED (AP) — The Montreal Canadiens have followed their season-opening, nine-game winning streak with back-to-back losses in Western Canada.

Two nights after a 5-1 loss in Vancouver, the Habs coughed up a 3-0 lead in a 4-3 loss to the Oilers in Edmonton. Leon Draisaitl sparked the rally with his first goal of the season before netting the game-winner with 62 seconds remaining. Brandon Davidson and Benoit Pouliot also scored third-period goals for the Oilers, who are ended a three-game skid and improved to 4-7-0.

Cam Talbot stopped 18 shots and blanked the Canadiens after Alex Galchenyuk scored late in the first period.

Elsewhere on ice:

— Evgeni Malkin set up Ben Lovejoy's go-ahead goal before scoring the eventual game-winner in the Penguins' 4-3 triumph over the Sabres. Lovejoy, Malkin and Patric Hornqvist each finished with a goal and an assist in the Penguins' sixth victory in seven games since a season-opening, three-game skid.

— Jamie Benn's ninth goal of the season was the game-winner as Dallas beat Vancouver 4-3 to improve to 8-2-0. Patrick Sharp's second goal of the night tied the game with 4:35 left in regulation.

— Carolina concluded a 4-3-0 road trip by beating the New York Islanders on Ron Hainsey's goal at 2:21 of overtime. Eddie Lack stopped 17 shots for the Hurricanes, who trailed 2-1 until Chris Terry tied it with 5:04 left in regulation.

— Travis Zajac notched a pair of power-play goals and Kyle Palmieri provided the game-winner and two assists in New Jersey's 4-1 verdict over the Flyers in Philadelphia. Cory Schneider handled 32 shots in the Devils' fifth victory in six games.

— Semyon Varlamov turned back 34 shots and Nathan McKinnon had a goal and an assist as Colorado topped Tampa Bay 2-1. Alex Tanguay also scored and Jarome Iginla collected two assists to help the Avalanche end a four-game losing streak and improve to 3-5-1.

— Bryan Little set up goals by Blake Wheeler and Andrew Ladd to help Winnipeg down Chicago 3-1. Michael Hutchinson stopped 44 shots and was perfect after Patrick Kane notched a power-play goal 86 seconds into the game.

— Colton Parayko provided the tiebreaking tally midway through the third period to complete the Blues' comeback in a 2-1 triumph over Anaheim. Vladimir Tarasenko also scored as the Blues improved to 7-2-1 and dropped the Ducks to 1-7-2.
