MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A driver suspected in a fatal hit-and-run in Minneapolis on New Year's Eve is behind bars.
A 27-year-old woman who lives near the scene of the crash was arrested Sunday. She's being held in the Hennepin County Jail on a possible charge of criminal vehicular homicide.
Thirty-seven-year-old Aisha Freels was crossing a major thoroughfare in north Minneapolis about 9:30 p.m. and was headed for a cab when she was struck. Authorities say she died at the scene of blunt force injuries.
The Star Tribune says calls to a police tip line helped in the investigation.
