Rochester, MN Man Facing Assault Charges for BB Gun Shooting
21-year-old Ashton Charles Hyde is facing charges of second-degree assault, carrying a BB gun in a public place and fifth-degree assault.
The victim told police that Hyde threatened him with a BB gun after the two had gotten into an argument over a THC vape cartridge.
Hyde then chased the victim and fired the BB gun striking him in the leg, the charges say.
The victim says Hyde then got in his vehicle and drove after the victim as he ran away, causing him to fear Hyde would run him over, according to the court document.
Two witnesses reported seeing Hyde chasing the victim with a BB gun and one of the witnesses said Hyde hit his vehicle with multiple BB rounds, the complaint says.
Police found Hyde’s vehicle and conducted a high-risk traffic stop due to the possibility of weapons being present.
Officers found a BB gun in the vehicle and took Hyde into custody. Hyde also had additional BB rounds and a CO2 tank on his person at the time of his arrest, the charges say.
Hyde was released without bail following his first court appearance on Monday. He’s due back for his next hearing in the case in May.
