BCA ID’S Minnesota Officer Involved in Shooting With Domestic Abuse Suspect
St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Minnesota BCA has identified the police officer who was involved in a shooting with a domestic abuse suspect.
The state crime agency released the findings of its preliminary investigation in a news release that was issued on Thursday. The exchange of gunfire happened late Monday night.
Oakdale police officers responded to the report of a woman asking for help at an Oakdale residence shortly before midnight.
The news release says 25-year-old Devione Malone left the residence in a vehicle with a woman and child and returned to the house following a brief pursuit with the police officers.
Malone got out of the vehicle and fired gunshots at police. An Oakdale officer, identified by the BCA as Andrew Dickman, returned fire.
Malone, who was not hit by Officer Dickman’s gunfire, got into the house and fired additional rounds at police, the news release says. Malone was arrested after a short standoff.
The woman and child who were in the vehicle with Malone were not hurt. Malone has since been charged in Washington County Court with two counts of first-degree attempted murder, three counts of first-degree assault and a charge of illegal possession of a firearm.
Officer Dickman, who has three years of law enforcement experience, has been placed on standard administrative leave, the BCA says. State investigators are reviewing footage of the incident captured by officer-worn body cameras and squad car dash cameras.
The news release says footage captured from Dickman’s body-worn camera is part of the review.
The BCA is continuing to investigate the shooting and will present the investigation’s findings without a charging recommendation to the Washington County Attorney’s Office upon completion of the investigation, the news release says.
