Update: Travel Not Advised Amid Blizzard Conditions in Southeast Minnesota 

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Rochester is now included in a Blizzard Warning.

It begins at noon on Sunday and is scheduled to end at 9:00 Monday morning. The National Weather Service previously had Rochester in a Winter Storm Warning

Officials say precipitation from the massive system will begin in the form of rain before changing over to snow by Sunday afternoon as the storm moves from east to west.

Quickly falling temperatures throughout the afternoon are expected to freeze areas of standing water and untreated wet surfaces, the warning says. 

A combination of widespread moderate to heavy snow and wind gusts as high as 45 mph is expected to result in blizzard-like conditions in open areas across southeast Minnesota, forecasters say. 

Travel is expected to be hazardous to treacherous for many locations and conditions are predicted to be dangerous in exposed areas, according to the Blizzard Warning. 

NWS Issues Updated Snowfall Prediction For Rochester & Southeast MN Sunday Morning

National Weather Service forecasters also issued updated snowfall predictions on Sunday morning. 

The latest forecast calls for 5-10 inches of snow in Rochester, 6-11 inches in Faribault, 7-12 inches in Wabasha, 4-9 inches in Austin and 4-8 inches in Preston

City of Rochester Announces Parking Restrictions to Allow for Downtown Snow Removal

Ahead of the snowfall, the City of Rochester has put parking restrictions in place throughout downtown Rochester to allow space for the city’s public Works department to clear snow.

No parking will be allowed from midnight until 8 a.m. in posted areas Sunday, Monday and Tuesday if necessary. Vehicles in violation will be ticketed and towed.
