City Council Approves Chateau Purchase Agreement
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Rochester City Council has approved a purchase agreement for the Chateau Theater building.
The owner and city recently negotiated a $6 million purchase price and the agreement requires a $65,000 deposit. The city has 60 days to move ahead with the purchase or forfeit the deposit. Mayo Clinic has also agreed to contribute $500,000 toward the purchase of the historic building.
The city wants the building to be designated as a DMC project. This would allow the use of DMC funds to cover the purchase and other costs.
Since announcing the proposed purchase a few weeks ago, the city has received numerous suggestions for its future use.
