The Rochester City Council today accepted a recommendation from the commission that oversees the Mayo Civic Center, agreeing to add a larger kitchen to the final design of the expansion project. The Council also agreed to reject a proposal for an escalator system in the building. The estimated cost of the expanded kitchen is $3 million and the Council was told it should fit within the project’s overall $85 million budget - if bids are favorable.

Under the current schedule, it’s expected bids for the project will be solicited in October. It’s hoped the bid can be awarded in December or January. The project has an overall construction schedule of 2 years.  The design plan that was approved 5 years ago will be updated over the next several weeks to bring it into compliance with code changes and other reasons.
