Andrew and JoAnna Pruett want to give a name to a small unnamed stream that runs near their home.

The stream begins in Kalmar Township near County Road 3 and flows northeast through Cascade Township where it terminates just northeast of George Gibbs Elementary School and south of the Douglas Trail inside the city limits of the City of Rochester.

Pruett says they came up with the name  “ Minnow Brook “ because he and their 2 year old son Theodore catch and release minnows in the stream as a fun family activity.

Senior Assistant County Attorney Tom Canan was assigned the case and discovered there are procedures involved that include getting permission from the DNR and a required public hearing by the County Board.

During a presentation to the County Board on Tuesday, Canan told the commissioners he and his staff  were “ scratching their heads “ for awhile because they have never dealt with such a request before. After also hearing from Andrew Pruett, the Board scheduled a March 10th public hearing and could vote on the request at that time.
