Court Appearance For Rochester Man Accused of 3 Murders
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester man accused of murdering his pregnant girlfriend and her young daughter was the subject of a brief hearing today in Olmsted County Court.
29-year-old Renard Carter made his initial court appearance on three counts of second-degree murder stemming from the strangulation deaths of 23-year-old Kiona Foote, her unborn child, and 2-year-old daughter Miyona Miller. Carter did not enter a plea to the charges today and will return to court in December for an evidentiary hearing.
He was arrested following an officer-involved shooting in Columbia, South Carolina several hours after the victims were found dead in their northeast Rochester apartment on September 13th. Authorities in South Carolina indicated Carter was shot and wounded by an officer after he emerged from an apartment holding a gun, which ended up being a BB gun.
After he was hospitalized for several days, Carter was jailed in South Carolina before he was returned to Rochester for prosecution on September 24th. He remains in the Olmsted County jail on $5 million bail.
