Today in the studio, a question I have not heard yet about the Coronavirus,

"Hi, do you know if the Coronavirus can be spread by mosquitos? I haven't heard anyone talking about it."

No one in the studio knew for certain, so I did some checking, and here's what I found.

Mosquitoes and ticks. There's no evidence to suggest that the virus that causes COVID-19 spreads through mosquito or tick bites.

Some people believe mosquitoes can spread the virus, but that’s not the case, according to Frank Esper, M.D., an infectious disease expert. “Mosquitoes can transmit disease, only by sucking your blood and transferring that blood into someone else,” said Dr. Esper. “So, things like West Nile Virus that’s how it works; things like malaria, that’s how it works. But this virus doesn’t stay in your blood very long.”

To date there has been no information nor evidence to suggest that the new coronavirus could be transmitted by mosquitoes. The new coronavirus is a respiratory virus which spreads primarily through droplets generated when an infected person coughs or sneezes, or through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose...
