St Paul (KROC AM News) - Minnesota recorded 28 COVID-19 deaths Saturday, the highest 24-hour total since the state began keeping track of cases.

The Minnesota Department of Health Sunday reported 156 new positive cases, raising the overall total to 3602. Almost half have recovered.

The MDH report shows Hennepin County confirmed 45 new cases to raise its total to 1332. It also reported 22 of Saturday’s fatal cases to raise its death total to 177.

The state’s overall total was raised to 272 on Saturday with more than 100 in just the past week.

Nobles County reported 27 new COVID-19 cases, raising it total to 352. The county is dealing with an outbreak at a meatpacking plant and now has the second-most cases in the state.

Olmsted County - which reported 19 new cases from Friday’s testing - reported just one new case from Saturday to raise its total to 239.

A total of 829 COVID-19 cases have been hospitalized in Minnesota to date. Currently, 285 cases are hospitalized, with 115 in intensive care.

The state has performed 59,000 tests since the pandemic began.
