Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Olmsted County Public Health is reporting the daily average for the number of new COVID-19 cases reported in the county continues to increase.

It reached 24 this week, compared to about 11 per day a month ago. The agency's weekly update on the pandemic also notes that, while the increase is not what they want to see, it is also not unexpected.

Locally, 17 new infections were reported today, while the number of known active cases dropped slightly from Tuesday's all-time high to 179. Statewide, about 12,500 COVID-19 tests completed yesterday detected 578 new cases. State health officials say the positivity rate from the testing increased this week to 4.8-percent from 4.4-percent last week.

8 additional COVID-19 deaths were reported today throughout Minnesota. The number of people hospitalized due to the viral illness increased by 18 from Tuesday to 254, while the number of ICU beds used by COVID patients dropped by one to 106.
