Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The COVID-19 tests that were completed on Saturday detected an elevated number of new cases in Olmsted County.

The 34 new local cases of the coronavirus illness were among the 461 identified from testing throughout Minnesota. It was also one of the highest single-day totals for Olmsted County since the beginning of the pandemic. The daily count in Mower County, where community testing is being offered this weekend, dropped to just 13 new cases.

The statewide overall case total rose to just under 33,000 with over 12,000 tests completed yesterday. That pushed the overall testing total in Minnesota above 500,000.

8 new coronavirus related deaths were reported today, which raised the statewide death toll to 1380. It marked the fourth time in the past two weeks the daily death toll has been in the single digits.

The hospitalization numbers were down slightly from Friday. The Health Department today reported 322 people are currently hospitalized due to COVID-19 and 160 are in intensive care.
