Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The past week has been the deadliest in Minnesota in almost 4 months in terms of coronavirus related deaths.

The Minnesota Department of Health today reported five additional deaths involving Minnesotans who had contracted COVID-19. That puts the total number of coronavirus related deaths in the state over the past week at 86, which is the highest weekly death toll since the third week of June when 89 the state reported 89 COVID-19 deaths.

State health officials today reported 1682 new confirmed infections detected by the over 27,000 COVID-19 tests that were completed on Friday. The testing positivity rate remained around six-percent.

43 new cases were reported in Olmsted County, where over the past two days there have been over 110 new infections identified. There are currently over 200 active cases listed in Olmsted County and the overall total number of cases since the start of the pandemic now exceeds 3000.

Statewide, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is now over 120,000.
