Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A young Rochester man is fighting for his life following a crash at a busy Rochester intersection.

Rochester Police Captain Casey Moilanen said officers responded to the crash Monday night. Two vehicles were involved in the collision.  

The police report indicates a car was attempting a left turn across traffic when it was struck by a car heading in the opposite direction. The driver of the second vehicle could not stop in time to avoid the collision

A total of three people were taken to a hospital. All of the injured individuals were riding in the same vehicle, Moilanen said. 

Teen Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries in Rochester Intersection Crash

The crash occurred at the intersection of Hwy. 14 and Marion Rd. Southeast around 10:15 p.m.

Moilanen said a car was attempting to turn onto Marion Rd. Southeast from westbound Hwy. 14 when it was struck by an eastbound car.

A passenger riding in the rear of the turning vehicle, described as an 18-year-old Rochester man, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for further medical attention.

A 17-year-old boy from Rochester was driving the vehicle that attempted the left turn. He and a second 18-year-old male passenger were also taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for further care of less severe injuries.

A Mayo Clinic Ambulance crew treated all three of the occupants before they were transported to the hospital, according to the police report.

A 47-year-old Rochester woman driving the eastbound car and her 44-year-old female passenger were not hurt, Moilanen said. The names of the five people involved in the crash are not being released. 

Moilanen said the Rochester Police Department’s Forensic Mapping Unit responded to the scene to assist with documenting the crash. The two-vehicle collision is under investigation.
