Dangerous Cold Lingers in Minnesota: Wind Chill Advisory Extended

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A blast of arctic air is maintaining its stranglehold on Minnesota.

The National Weather Service issued a Wind Chill Advisory that covered most of the state on Sunday with the exception of western Minnesota which was under a Wind Chill Warning.

The Wind Chill Advisory in southeast Minnesota was set to expire Tuesday morning. On Monday afternoon, the National Weather Service extended southeast Minnesota’s Wind Chill Advisory into Wednesday.

The extended advisory covers Olmsted, Dodge, Mower, Fillmore, Houston, Wabasha and Winona Counties as well as communities in northeast Iowa and southwest Wisconsin. Wind chills in the advisory area could sink to as low as 25 to 35 below zero.

Officials say frostbite could occur in as little as 30 minutes on exposed skiing during the bitter cold conditions. High temperatures for the remainder of the week are expected to hover slightly above or below zero.

The extended Wind Chill advisory is set to expire at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
