Deep Freeze Continues With Snow on Sunday
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Minnesota is back in the deep freeze. The morning lows across the state ranged from the single digits below zero to over 40-degrees below zero with nasty wind chill readings in the -30’s and -40’s.
The mercury bottomed out at 13 below zero at the Rochester Airport around
8 o’clock Saturday morning. At the time, the “feels like” reading was around -30. It appears Red Wing was the cold spot in this region with an unofficial morning low of 20-degrees below zero, while Owatonna reported a low of -17.
Once again, the tiny town of Embarrass in northeastern Minnesota reported the coldest temperature in the state and likely the entire nation. The actual air temperature fell to 45-degrees below zero, while it reached 41-below zero in the town of Cotton, which is about 40 miles north of Duluth. Several other larger cities, including International Falls and Hibbing, reported lows between 30 and 35 below zero.
It shouldn’t be quite as cold tonight. The National Weather Service is forecasting a low of around -10 in Rochester Sunday morning before a small warm front pushes the temperatures into the teens above zero while delivering several inches of snow to southeastern Minnesota Sunday afternoon and evening. The Martin Luther King National Holiday is predicted to be bitterly cold with gusty northwest winds and a high temperature around zero.
