Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The already difficult traffic situation in downtown Rochester is about to get more difficult. The Rochester Public Works Department says the most disruptive project, the total reconstruction of 4th Street SW, is scheduled to enter a new phase on Tuesday.

The next phase will require the complete closure of the 3rd Avenue and 4th Street intersection. 3rd Avenue, which is a one-way, will temporarily be converted to two-way traffic for one block north and south of the closed intersection.

The westbound lanes of 4th Street will be closed from 4th to 6th Avenues, limiting the roadway to only eastbound traffic between 4th and 7th Avenues. In addition, 6th Avenue SW will be limited to one-way southbound traffic from 3rd to 5th Street, only northbound traffic will be allowed on 5th Avenue between the same streets and 4th Avenue will remain a southbound one-way.

All of the existing closures associated with the project will also remain in effect, while the 6th Avenue SW intersection will remain open for the time being.

The new phase of the project will have an impact on Rochester Public Transit operations in the downtown. Details of the impacts are available at the RPT website.
