25-year-old Corey Jay Gilbertson is charged with one count each of first-degree drug sales, second-degree drug possession, fifth-degree drug possession and felony DWI.
Rochester police responded to the report of slumped over or sleeping driver in the 4100 block of Glouster Ln. NW shortly before 4:45 Monday morning.
The lone occupant of the vehicle, identified as Gilbertson, was sitting in the driver’s seat of the running vehicle and appeared to be asleep.
Officers saw tinfoil and a gray straw while looking into the vehicle, the complaint says.
Police knocked on the vehicle window, which caused Gilbertson to wake. He then hit the accelerator, causing the vehicle to rev, the complaint says.
Eventually Gilbertson exited the vehicle. Gilbertson told officers he had smoked heroin Sunday night and had been parked in the area since 7 p.m., the charges say.
Police arrested Gilbertson after learning his driving status was canceled-inimical to public safety, the complaint says.
A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 28.2 grams of methamphetamine, 0.82 grams of heroin, two digital scales with a crystal residue on them and 100 plastic bags, the charges say.
Police brought Gilbertson to the Olmsted County Jail and served a warrant to obtain a blood draw. The collected sample has been sent to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension crime lab for testing, the complaint says.
Court records indicate Gilbertson has four qualified impaired driving offenses since 2018. His bail was set at $50,000 following his first court appearance on Tuesday and he is due back in court later this month.
