Father Attacked With Vehicle During Rochester Road Rage, Charges Say
The charges say the victim, who was on his way to pick up his daughter, observed a red vehicle swerving along a road in northeast Rochester nearly hitting other vehicles, the charges say.
Officers later identified the driver of the suspect vehicle as 41-year-old Dean Ryan Kline. At one point, the suspect vehicle got behind the victim vehicle and rammed into the rear of the victim vehicle multiple times, the complaint says.
In an effort to de-escalate, the victim told police he pulled off the unnamed northeast Rochester street and into a parking lot. Kline followed him into the parking lot and continued to drive at the victim’s vehicle, the court document alleges.
The victim then drove into a muddy area outside of the parking lot and the suspect vehicle swerved around in an apparent attempt to strike the broadside of the victim’s vehicle, according to the charges.
Kline, who is listed as homeless in the complaint, smashed the vehicle he was driving into a tree that was between his vehicle and the victim’s. Kline got out of the vehicle as police arrived and began yelling racial slurs at the victim, the charges say.
Officers then arrested Kline on suspicion of DWI and discovered a glass pipe in his possession that had a residue that tested positive for methamphetamine and fentanyl, the complaint says.
Kline was transported to a hospital for treatment of possible injuries before being taken to the Olmsted County Jail.
He’s charged with second-degree assault, fifth-degree assault, third-degree property damage, two counts of DWI and one count of reckless driving. Investigators obtained a blood sample from Kline that has been submitted for testing.
The complaint does not say whether or not the victim was hurt. Kline is due to make his first court appearance next week.
