Fire in Garage Near Rochester Park Inflicts Significant Damage
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Rochester firefighters fought a vehicle fire that broke out in a garage Monday evening.
A news release issued by the Rochester Fire Department says crews were dispatched to the fire call around 7:30 p.m. Upon arrival firefighters found smoke coming through the front of a detached garage through its overhead door.
The fire occurred at a residence in the 50 block of 8th St. Northeast. Firefighters found a vehicle on fire once they removed the overhead door to gain access to the garage.
Crews extinguished the flames and contained the fire to the vehicle. No injuries were reported.
The fire inflicted an estimated $10,000 in damage. The vehicle, overhead door and contents in the garage were deemed a total loss, however the structure was spared from significant fire damage, officials say.
The cause of the fire has not been released. The Rochester Police Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service also responded to the fire.
Officials say quick notification and evacuation of the fire ensured the safety of the residents and limited the fire’s damage.
