Mower County Man Injured in Attempt to Save Property During Christmas Day Fire
Blooming Prairie, MN (KROC-AM News)- Multiple emergency responders spent part of their Christmas Day fighting a rural house fire in Mower County.

Crews were dispatched to the blaze around 6:30 p.m. Mower County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy David Pike says responding crews found active flames in the structure’s basement that were causing the home to fill with smoke.
The Hayfield, Brownsdale and Dexter Fire Departments were paged to the scene. The Mower County Sheriff’s Office, Dodge Center and Hayfield Ambulance services also responded to the scene.
Man Trying to Save Property From Mower County House Fire Suffers Injuries, Brought to Hospital
The fire was reported in the 62000 block of 320th St., which is southeast of Blooming Prairie. Firefighters contained fire damage to the area of the basement, according to Pike.
Pike says the property owner had tried to remove personal items from the home before emergency responders arrived at the fire scene.
The man suffered minor injuries during his attempt to remove the property. He was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester for further care, Pike says.
Authorities have not released the homeowner’s name. He was not able to immediately provide a damage estimate.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and is under investigation by the State Fire Marshall's Office. Crews cleared the scene by 9 p.m., Pike said.
