Not that it's never been this cold before, but Cold Weather Advisories have replaced Wind Chill Warnings this winter by the National Weather Service.

The Cold Weather Advisory is in effect from 9:00 pm Saturday night through noon on Tuesday for the entire southern half of Minnesota; where very cold wind chills as low as 35 below are expected.

An Extreme Cold Warning has been issued for the northern parts of the state, where wind chills could drop as low as 45 below.

Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. Keep pets indoors as much as possible.

The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 5 to 10 minutes. Very cold temperatures can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure.

Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.

How cold is it? The presidential inauguration taking place Monday in Washington D.C. has been moved indoors into the capitol rotunda for the first time in 40 years. The parade will take place inside the Capital One Arena.

Temperatures are expected to rebound into the 20s by Wednesday, with near average highs throughout the remainder of next week.
