Flags Lowered In Honor Of Olmsted County Deputy

St Paul (KROC AM News) - Flags are at half-staff around Minnesota in honor of an Olmsted County deputy who died while on duty earlier this month.

Gov. Walz issued the order Monday for US and Minnesota flags at government sites, ordering they be flown at half-staff through sunset Tuesday.

Detention Deputy Mark Anderson was found unresponsive in the employee locker room the evening of April 15. Anderson was 52-years-old and it appears his death was medically related.

Anderson had been a detention deputy since 2010 after working as a county employee in other positions for 15 years.

The governor’s proclamation reads:

Detention Deputy Anderson was a gentle giant of a man who was respected greatly by his colleagues and by detainees. With its deepest gratitude, the State of Minnesota recognizes Detention Deputy Mark Anderson for his dedicated service to and sacrifice for his fellow Minnesotans. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, and the community.
