Minnesota’s flu season continues to rage, but the weekly update on influenza activity from the State Health Department shows it is not quite as bad as it was just before Christmas.

Overall flu activity remained classified as widespread last week with the health department reporting 6 probable outbreaks in Minnesota schools, and 31 flu outbreaks in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities. Both of those numbers were up slightly from the previous week.

On the other hand, the number of flu-related hospitalizations continued to decline last week, but the 49 hospitalizations reported to the health department raised the total for the season to 1,285. The weekly update also shows continued drops in the percentage of people seeking care at Minnesota clinics who had flu-like symptoms, and the number of specimens that tested positive for influenza.
