St Paul, MN (KROC AM News) - The U.S. Agriculture Department confirmed four more bird flu outbreaks at Minnesota turkey farms on Friday.

One is in Stearns County, which has now seen four outbreaks of the lethal avian flu in recent weeks. The other three are in Cottonwood, Lyon and Watonwan Counties.

There have now been 13 outbreaks in commercial poultry flocks throughout the state involving over 870,000 turkeys. Officials have had to order the destruction of all of the turkeys at the affected facilities in an effort to halt the spread of the infection caused by the H5N2 strain.

While the outbreaks are having a major impact on Minnesota’s poultry industry, officials continue to stress the risk to humans is low and there are no food safety concerns.
