Communications Coordinator Amanda Grayson says the alleged attack occurred at a northeast Rochester apartment complex. Officers responded to the incident around 2:30 Saturday morning.
The alleged attack occurred in the 1400 block of 1st Ave. Northeast. Grayson says a man reported being struck with a golf club wielded by 57-year-old Jason Smith of Rochester.
He reported that Smith hit him with the club several times after he and a woman had gotten into an argument with him, according to the police report.
A Mayo Clinic Ambulance crew evaluated the victim at the scene. Grayson says he suffered bruising. Olmsted County Adult Detention Center records indicate Smith was booked into the jail shortly after 3:00 Saturday morning.
Grayson says the Rochester Police Department is recommending he face charges of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and disorderly conduct brawling/fighting.
Smith is awaiting his first appearance in Olmsted County Court.
