Minnesota Man Accused of Stealing Gun, Medication & Cash in Rochester Apartment Burglary
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Olmsted County Attorney’s Office has charged a Rochester man accused of stealing a gun during an apartment burglary.
It was reported on January 29. The criminal complaint, filed in Olmsted County Court on Tuesday said the victim was moving out of the apartment during the alleged burglary.
Rochester Police responded to the apartment in the 5300 block of 56th St. Northwest where the victim reported items stolen from her purse she left in her apartment while she was downstairs from her unit loading boxes into a U-Haul.
The items reported stolen were a Sig Sauer 9mm pistol, $40 cash, and Adderall pills. She also reported encountering a man in the hallway who told her he was looking for someone who owed him money as she was moving the items to the U-Haul downstairs, the complaint says.
Surveillance camera footage captured in the apartment’s hallway shows the individual, later identified as 22-year-old Leontan Marshawn Troy, enter the woman’s apartment for about a minute and return to the hallway while the victim was downstairs, the complaint says.
Troy was then seen adjusting his waistband and trying other apartment doors in the footage, the court document says.
Officers executed a search warrant at Troy’s home and found clothing that matched the clothes the burglary suspect was seen wearing in the security camera footage captured on the day of the burglary, the complaint says.
The complaint makes no further mention of the firearm, adderall and cash. Troy told police he was at the apartment on the day of the burglary to sell narcotics.
He said a person ripped him off and that he followed the individual into the apartment. He said he tried opening every apartment door on the building’s first three doors and that he “popped his head in” to two units, according to the complaint.
Troy has been charged with a count of felony first-degree burglary-possession of a dangerous weapon. His bail was set at $200,000 without conditions on Tuesday.
Troy’s next court date is scheduled for later this month.
