Minnespolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Minneapolis woman has been sentenced to almost 4 years in prison for a deadly hit and run that occurred on New Year's Eve.

28-year-old Donella Day earlier pleaded guilty to criminal vehicular homicide for causing the death of 37-year-old Aiash Freels. Minneapolis Police say the victim was walking across the street in front of her home to get into a waiting taxi when she was hit by a car that was going about 45 miles per hour.

In arguing for a prison sentence in the case, prosecutors noted Day was speeding, fled the scene and did not have a valid driver’s license. She was arrested three days after the deadly incident after investigators received an anonymous tip that she was the hit and run driver.
