Homicide Suspected In Minnesota Farmhouse Fire That Killed 2

BALATON, Minn. (AP) — A husband and wife in their 70s are dead and three young men are in jail after a farmhouse fire in southwestern Minnesota.

The fire Thursday in Balaton killed 75-year-old Jim Hively and his wife, Cathy, who was 71.

Three men ranging in age from 18 to 21 are under arrest and could be charged as soon as Monday. All are suspected of arson and burglary. Two of them also are suspected of murder.

The Lyon County sheriff's office says emergency responders were called to the home 15 miles south of Marshall about 9 a.m. A medical examiner will determine how the couple died.

The couple's family released a statement, saying the Hivelys should "be remembered for the loving, hardworking farm couple they were."
